Funded Nursing Care and continuing healthcare income
Are we receiving the right NHS payments for our nursing residents?
The Funded Nursing Care rate and the council nursing rate together are the income for most nursing residents.
When people use it: At each nursing admission and each April when the rate changes.

Ask the data in plain English
A real question and answer from Ask Orrery, the assistant inside the platform, for a care home owner in Kent (October 2026). It answers only from Orrery's data and the subscriber's own documents, and shows its sources.
The Funded Nursing Care (FNC) rate is £267.68 a week from April 2026. That is up 5.4% from £254.06. A higher band of £368.24 also exists.
Kent County Council's average nursing rate was £1,378 a week for 2025/26, excluding FNC. Adding FNC gives about £1,646 a week to the home for an average council funded nursing resident.
The NHS pays FNC straight to the home. The council pays the rest of the fee.
Sources: Orrery Kent Care Market Report, "How care homes get paid" section, which cites NHS FNC rates and 2025/26 Kent County Council averages. The rate is for 2026/27 and the council average is for 2025/26, so the two years differ.
- Unclaimed or late FNC payments are lost income.
